"Nashoba" is a Chickasaw and Choctaw word meaning wolf — a name tied deeply to the history of this land long before county lines were ever drawn. It's a fitting name for a movement built by the people who call this corner of Shelby County home: Millington, Bartlett, Collierville, Lakeland, Arlington, Germantown, and the unincorporated communities between them.
We believe these communities share more in common with each other — in growth, in character, and in what they need from local government — than they do with the urban core many miles away. Nashoba Now exists to explore, honestly and transparently, whether Tennessee's long-standing constitutional process for forming new counties could bring that shared identity into a government of its own.
Nashoba Now began as kitchen-table conversations among neighbors frustrated by how far decisions about their roads, schools, and public safety felt from where they actually lived. What started as informal meetups grew into a coordinated, all-volunteer effort to research, map, and organize around Tennessee's constitutional path for new county formation.
Decisions about our schools, roads, and public safety made by people who actually live here.
Every step of this effort follows the process the Tennessee Constitution has provided since 1870.
This is a neighbor-led, volunteer-driven movement — not a top-down political campaign.
Whether you can knock doors, spread the word, or just want updates — there's a place for you in this movement.
